Why do sociologists examine the values, norms, and roles of the society they are studying?
A
To understand the particular biases of the society and therefore of the study. To help explain specific behaviours and actions.

What fundamental social beliefs do breaching experiments test?
A
- They test the social beliefs that if you are asked to give up your seat, the person asking most likely has a good reason (even if they are not disclosing it).
- Also the belief that people are honest, and the belief that it is important to be polite over mild discomfort.

Why were the researchers in Milgram’s experiment reluctant to participate?
A
- They were reluctant to participate because they felt that it was unethical. It deceived the subway passengers.
- The participants also knew that giving up your seat to able bodied people was not done in New York.
