Sociology
The study of social behaviour and human groups (such as a society).
Macrosociology
An approach of sociology that analyzes social systems on a large scale.
Microsociology
The study of small groups and individuals within a society.
Structural Functionalism
A society is stable when social institutions (ex. Family, religion, politics, schools) meet the needs of its citizens. These structures (institutions) are interdependent on each other.
Conflict Theory
Constant struggles between those who have economic and political power and those who don’t create competition between different groups for power.
Feminist Theory
Gender inequality, how men control women’s lives (jobs, finances, bodies) woman are marginalized, deprived of power, and without equal membership in society.
Symbolic Interactionism
Human interaction at the micro level. Emphasis on the individual living within a larger society.
Explain the importance of Surveys in Sociology
The survey: a set of questions used on a sample of the population. Study opinions, values, actions. U
sually uses a wide range of people. Should be objective, random selection of people, large sample of the population, tell survey takers about the purpose of the survey, identity of the survey takers should be confidential.
