What is a PAR-Q?
PAR-Q stands for Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire. It is used to identify the small amounts of adults for which physical activity may not be appropriate.
What are the 6 components of Warm-Ups?
Prepare the muscles Prepare the joints Prepare the mind Prevent injury Prepare the ligament and Prepare the Cardiovascular systems.
What are the phases of a Warm-Up?
Cardiovascular Phase
Stretching Phase
Sport Specific Phase
What happens in the Cardiovascular Phase?
Every session should start with a cardio warm up to gradually raise heart rate toward resting heart rate.
What is the Stretching Phase?
Stretching forms the second phase of the warm up, there are two main types of stretching.
What are the two types of stretching and what do they do?
Static - Easy, on the spot stretching without stretching
Dynamic - Stretches that use movement specific to a sport, gradually increasing your reach and speed.
What is the the sport-specific phase?
The final phase of the warm up will be practicing the skills of the activity necessary.
What does SMART stand for?
Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic Time-bound
What does the “S” in SMART help us with?
Specificity. It tells the person what their goal is. It may include a series of steps towards the overall goal.
What does the “M” in SMART help us with?
Measurable. It means it will be easy to know when goals are achieved. For example, we would know when someone has ran 100m in the Cooper Run.
What does the “A” in SMART help us with?
Achievable. Goals must be attainable, unachievable goals could lead to demotivation.
What does the “R” in SMART help us with?
Realistic. A goal may be achievable in practice, but are there other reasons that may hinder the completion of that goal. E.g the gym was closed so I couldn’t do weight training.
What does the “T” in SMART help us with.
Time-bound. Does the goal have an end point, if not it is easy to put off achieving indefinitely.
