Soc 18 - Aerobic, Anaerobic Exercise & Energy Sources Flashcards
What do muscles need to work?
Muscles need energy to work, the energy comes from food and then converted to glucose.
Where is the energy stored?
In the liver store as glycogen to then be distributed during exercise.
What is the usual process for releasing energy?
Aerobic respiration
What does Aerobic mean?
Aerobic means with oxygen
Glucose + Oxygen -> Carbon dioxide + Energy
What happens to the glucose and oxygen?
The glucose and oxygen are brought into the blood where respiration takes place.
What is glucose?
A major source of energy for most cells in the body.
What is anaerobic respiration?
The process of releasing energy from glucose without oxygen.
What is aerobic exercise?
Working at a moderate intensity allowing the body time to utilise oxygen for energy production.
What are fats?
A rich source of energy but many modern diets provide more than our bodies need
