Open skill
The situation is always changing, adapt to the new situation
Closed skill
Takes place in a predictable environment where the player knows what to do
Basic skill
Skill that the player finds easy and needs little concentration to do
Complex skill
Needs the player’s complete attention as it is technically difficult to perform
Low organisation skill
Has clear, simple phrases or parts, can usually break parts up
High organisation skill
Has a lot of complicated phrases or parts, cannot break these phrases down
Massed practice
Where the skill is practiced until it is learned without taking a break
Distributed practice
Where the skill is practiced over several sessions, or with breaks
Fixed practice
Where the skill is practice over and over again until it is perfected
Variable practice
Involves practising the skill in a variety of difficult situations, so it can be adapted
Visual guidance
Can be given in many ways, most commonly shown through a learner performing
Verbal guidance
Can be helpful as long as it’s clear. Can be difficult to recieve for beginners
Manual guidance
When the coach is actually in contact with the learner as they perform the skill
