Soc18 Aerobic , Anaerobic and Energy Sources Flashcards
Glucose
A major source of energy for most cells in the body
Aerobic respiration + equation
Aerobic respiration: the process of releasing energy from glucose, using oxygen. Glucose + oxygen -> Carbon dioxide + energy + water
Anearobic respiration + equation
the process of releasing energy from glucose, without oxygen. Glucose -> Energy + lactic acid
Aerobic exercise
working at a moderate intensity allowing the body time to utilise oxygen for energy production and to work for a continuous period, e g, long-distance events
Anaerobic exersic
Working at a high intensity without oxygen. 80-90% of your mhr like sprinting
Lactic acid
Lactic acid is a colourless acid produced during strenuous exercise when the body is exercising anaerobically at a high intensity
Cramp
Painful , involuntary contraction of a muscle caused by fatigue
Fats
A rich source of energy. They are burned during moderate / low intensity exercise
Carbohydrates
The bodys main source of energy. Burned during high and moderate intensity training.
