What are the 7 elements of a balanced diet?
. Carbohydrates, fats, protein, vitamins, minerals,water and fibre
What is a macronutrient?
Types of food that you need large amounts of in your diet.
What are carbohydrates?
Stored in our muscles and liver as glycogen and is converted to glucose to be used as energy
What is carb-loading?
Consumption of high amounts of carbs before a race or event,muscles are full of oxygen.
What are fats?
They provode energy and with glycogen help our bodies to work
What are proteins?
They help to build muscles and repair damaged tissues
What are micronutrients?
The part of food neede for normal growth
What are vitamins?
Come in two groups, water and fat souluble, which effects how they’re dissolved
What are minerals?
Two main minerals needed are calcium and iron, calcium helps in formation of bones and teeth as well as their strength, iron helps to make red blood cells more efficient.
What is fibre?
This adds to the bulk of the food and aids the digestive system
What does water do?
Holds oxygen and is the main component of many cells
What is dehydration?
Loss of water and salts essential for body function
What is hydration?
Body has the correct amount of water in cells to function correctly.
What is diuretic
Making you produce more urine
What is a metabolic rate?
The base amount of calories you burn naturally
