Soc 21- Planes And Axis Flashcards
What is a plane?
An imaginary flat surface that divides the body into different sections
Example of a sagittal plane
Front Somersault in gymnastics
Example of a frontal plane
Cartwheel in gymnastics
Example of a transverse plane
Rotating in the circle(only) when discus throwing
Axis
An imaginary line around which something turns
Sagittal plane
An imaginary line dividing the body vertically into left and right sides
Frontal plane
An imaginary line dividing the body vertically from front to back
Transverse plane
An imaginary line dividing the body horizontally from top to bottom
Frontal axis
An imaginary line passing horizontally through the body from left to right
Sagittal axis
An imaginary line passing horizontally through the body from front to back
Vertical axis
An imaginary line passing vertically through the body
Types of movement at a sagittal plane
Flexion and Extension
Types of movement at a frontal plane
Adduction and Abduction
Types of movement at a transverse plane
Rotation
Axis (in the body)
Our joints rotate around axis , and these axis allow movement to take place in one of these planes
