Soc 19: The Short Term Effects Of Exercise And Graphs Flashcards
1
Q
What parts of the human body do the short term effects of physical exercise have an impact on ?
A
The muscles
The heart
The respiratory system
2
Q
What are the effects on the muscles ?
A
Muscle fatigue (painful and tired muscles)
Lactic accumulation
Cramp as a result of muscle fatigue
3
Q
What are the effects on the heart ?
A
- Increased heart rate
- Increased blood flow pumped from the heart
- Increased cardiac output (blood pumped per minute)
- Increased stroke volume (blood pumped per beat)
4
Q
What are the effects on the breathing ?
A
- Increased breathing rate
- Increased breathing depth
- Increased oxygen debt (oxygen needed to remove the lactate accumulation)
- Increased removal of carbon dioxide (CO2)
5
Q
What are the differences between the graph that shows a fit person exercising in comparison to an unfit person with the x axis as: (Time) and the y axis as: (Heart rate) ?
A
- The fit person has a lower RHR to start with.
- The fit persons heart rate rises slower than than the unfit persons- the they have a lower gradient shown on the graph at the beginning.
- The fit persons has a lower MHR than the unfit persons.
- When they finish exercising the fit persons heart rate drops faster than the unfit persons and the fit persons heart rate recovers quicker shown by an increased negative gradient.
