Soc 18 - Aerobic And Anaerobic System Flashcards
What is glucose?
Is a major source of energy for most cells in the body.
What is lactic acid
A colourless acid produced in muscle tissues during strenous exercise when the body is exercising usually anaerobically at a high intesnisty
What is a cramp?
Painful, involuntry contraction of a muscle, usually casued by fatigue
What is Anaerobic respiration
The process of releasing energy from glucose, without oxygen
What is the formula for aerobic respiration?
Glucose + Oxygen = Energy + Co2 + Water
Why is a waste product produced in anaerobic respiration?
Glucose is still used however not oxygen.
Why does lactic acid make your legs ache?
Because it is toxic
What are two examples of energy sources?
Carbohydrates and Fats (lipid)
What are the waste products of aerobic respiration? What happens ti them.
Co2 + Water - which are absorbed in the blood and taken away
What is the formula for anaerobic respiration?
Glucose = Energy + Lactic Acid
What is the intensity of aerobic respiration?
Moderate
What intensity do you work at in anerobic repiration?
High intensity
Where are carbohydrates delivered to the cells via?
The liver
Explain the difference between complex and simple carbohydrates.
Simple carbohydrates provide the body wiht a quick fix of energy whereas Complex carbohydrates are slow releasing and long lasting.
What exercise can fat provide energy for?
Only fore moderate - exercise for long periods.
