Classify bones on the basis of shape?

A

Flat: Thin & flat (e.g sternum, ribs, scapula).

Short: Cube-shaped (e.g wrist and ankle bones).
***Sesamoid (special type) → Embedded in the tendon of a muscle (e.g patella).

Long: Longer>wide & shaft and 2 proximal/distal ends (e.g all limb bones except the patella, wrist and ankle).

Irregular: Many different shapes (e.g vertebrae, hip bone).
