Shape Flashcards

1

A

Vs V1, cells here generally have larger RFs, and are capable of tuning to illusory contour

Q

V4

A

Aside from color, important in discriminating between complex shapes.

It’s difficult to detect the general tuning properties of V4 neurons

Q

LOC

A

Responds stronger to shapes (familiar or not) than to scrambled stimuli

Also responds to shapes defined by second order features
- eg difference in motion that difines an object

Q

IT cortex

A

Real life object selectivity is very clear in neuron firing, when real hand is shown response is stronger.

Tanaka researched this. Is it a ‘hand tune neuron’? He reduced complex stimulus for essential feature combinations.

Q

Facial recognition

A

‘Face cells’ in monkeys IT cortex respond to faces. Doenst respond to scrambled face.

Even selective to the orientation or the face

Q

Object constancy

A

Object recognition is highly viewpoint invariant. We recognize an object no matter what viewpoint it is.
