Depth Flashcards
Monocular depth cues
perspective (closeby or far away, linear perspective)
Size consistancy (Size perceived equal if judged further away)
Occlusion (thing in front covers thing behind it)
Cast shadows (shadow of object indicates distance)
Shading/contour (Perceived as going away/towards/up/down)
Areal/atmospheric (Far away is blurry due to air)
Texture (density, foreshortening)
Motion parallax (Close by moves faster than far)
Binocular cues
Stereopsis; sterial viewoing. Two seperate images in both eyes create a stronger sense of depth
Free fusion
Ability to use binocular vision
Disparity
Stimulus that is at a different depth produces unequal distance projections in the horopter (depth plane). this causes disparity.
The brain calculates depth from disparity
Correspondence problem
Matching elements in a scene; unclear which dot correponds to which eye. Incorrect matches are made (false targets/matches)
Causes you to misjudge distance
