Higher Motor Control Flashcards
1
Q
Primary motor cortex
A
M1, area 4. important for direct motor control. If this is lesions all kinds of movements are affected
2
Q
Pre Motor Cortex (PMC) (with posterior parietal cortex (PPC))
A
Focused on externally guided action. Stimulus driven eg catching a ball
3
Q
Supplementary motor area (SMA) (with prefrontal cortex) (PFC)
A
Focused on internally guided action, eg selecting which object to pick up
4
Q
Population vector
A
Neurons are not very selective, so you need a population coding (vector sum) to tune a movement.
All population vactors provides a cortical representation of movement.
