Motor diseases/lesions Flashcards

1
Q

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Gherig’s Disease)

A

Disease that effects alpha motor neurons. Won’t be able to control muscles anymore, up to the point where you can’t breathe. Usually 3-5 years to live (except Hawking)

Q

Lesions in Motor cortex

A

Hemiplegia:
- half sided paralysis due to lesion of upper motor neurons coming from M1)

Apraxia:
- Loss oif motor skill due to lesion to SMA, PMC, PPC
- Not due to upper or lower neuron deficit.
- Ideomotor (conceptual idea, sort of executable but clumsy)
- Ideational Apraxia; No idea how to execute movement
