Macular Degeneration

A

Dry MD
- yellow deposits (drusen) accumulate in the macula

Wet MD;
- Blood underneath macula

Symptoms
- Blnk spots
- Distortion in central vision

Cause;
- Age, smoking, diet, genetic
- Receptors are lost due to accumulation of toxics

No treatment

Glaucoma

A

Increase of eye pressure. Certain amount needed to keep the eye round, but too much causes oxigen loss. The eye creats ocular fluid which builds up

Nerve fibers get damiged, loss of peripheral vision follows (varies)

Treatable, but only to stop spread, lost RGC’s are lost, sooner the better

Retinitis Pigmentosa

A

Genetic disorder

Progressive degeneration of the receptors, first the rods then the cones

Pigment deposits at affected parts of the retina, retina falls apart.

Starts with night blindness (not necessarily sign), follows wiht loss of peripheral vision, then tunnel vision into full bindness.

No cure
