Posterior Parietal Cortex (PPC) Flashcards
PPC
Area 5&7
Translates movement form retinal (eye-centered) to hand- head- or body-centered reference frames.
Developments for paralysed
In spinal cord lesions, the cortical stuff still works. They’ve been trying to translate the signals to a motor arm.
Recordings of the population vectors was the start of this, where they could very accurately predict the movement based on the vector sum.
Rat experiment
Robot arm was steered by the rat, without him knowing. After training to use a lever to control it, they measured the sequence/patterns of neural activity.
Pattern recognition
They trained the patient to activate and turn of his motor cortex (biofeedback) and measured it to find the pattern. (done by the classifier)
