Color Flashcards

1
Q

The Dress

A

Discussion because the wavelength of blue and black in the sun are the same as white and gold in the shadow

Proof of how color is not just wavelengths, it is the interpretation;
- Those who see the dress as in the shadow see it as white-gold
- Those who see it in sun; black/blue

Even depends on if your morning/night person. seeing it as artificial light makes you more likely to assume its blue/black.

Q

Discounting

A

We don’t see color for fun, we see it because it informs us. Eg the ripeness of fruit.

Seeing it in two different lights doesn’t change interpretation:
- We discount luminance to extract info
- We do this by comparing all we see, discount that which is is overrepresented
- Depends on wavelenght of surrounging

Too light; discount light, Green wach over image; discount green etc etc.

Q

Color constancy

A

Perceiving the same color despite differences in illumination. The wavelength of the light changes, but it is perceived as the same color

Q

V4

A

color constancy emerges at V4 because the receptive field is large enough to integrate diffreent opponent signals and discount the illuminance.

Q

Cortical colorblindness

A

Achromatopsia, lesion in the V4/V8. If fully color blind, you see sharp but no color

It’s possible only a part is affected, so only left upper corner

Q

Brain code

A

Color is not wavelength, it’s brain code. It’s information for you whether eg fruit is ripe. Same as wavelength pink, which doesn’t exist. That doesn’t mean pink doesn’t exist, it means we encode information to interpret reality. Color is not a property of light.
