A

Lost gradually

Ageing or exposure to loud noise over years - destroying cells

What is conductive hearing loss?

A

Sound not conducted efficiently through auditory canal - blockage e.g. earwax or perforated eardrum or infection or loud noise

What is sensorineural hearing loss?

A

Damage to hair cells in organ of corti - infection e.g. meningitis or exposure to very loud noise e.g. explosion

How can hearing loss be treated?

A

Cochlear implant - surgically implanted - for severe loss
Hearing aid - makes sound clearer and louder
Removal of earwax - ear drops - almond or olive oil
Sign language - communicate
Hearing dog - every day task help e.g. crossing road, listening for alarms
