Sensory - Eye Flashcards
What is the function of the pupil?
Opening in middle of eye where light passes
What is the function of the iris?
Coloured ring adjusting light entering eye through pupil
What is the function of the tear gland?
Produce tears that clean and lubricate eye - slat = natural antiseptic - defend against infection
What is the function of the aqueous and vitreous humors?
Jelly-like watery fluids that fill the eye to keep it in shape and nourish it
What is the function of the conjunctiva?
A thin membrane that protects cornea
What is the function of the cornea?
Located at front of eye - light passes through
Convex shape
What is the function of the retina?
Inner lining of the eye containing light receptor cells - rods and cones - convert light into neural messages
What is the function of the macula?
Contains high amount of photoreceptor cells - detect light and send signals to brain
What is the function of the optic nerve?
Where nerve cells exit eye and transfer vision info to brain = images
What is the function of the ciliary muscle?
Enables lens to change shape for focusing
What is the function of the suspensory ligaments?
Support eye and attach cilliary muscle to lens
What is the function of the lens?
Focuses light entering eye
