A disease where arteries become narrowed by a build up of fatty materials in walls

May not have any symptoms
Angina - chest pain
Heart attack - tight chest and pain

Need to take meds
Possible surgery - time off work and recovery + risks
Risk of stroke and heart attack

Regular check ups

What are the monitoring methods for CHD?
Blood tests - levels of fat, cholesterol, sugar and proteins
ECG - measures electrical activity + show any abnormalities
What are the pros to an ECG for CHD?
Easy test
Find out what part of heart isn’t working as well
What are cons of using ECG for CHD?
Can’t use to monitor at home
Make time to see GP - difficult in rural areas or busy lifestyle
What are the treatment options for CHD?
Nitrates - relax coronary arteries
Statins - reduce cholesterol levels
Angioplasty - ballon inserted into artery and inflated, stent inserted
What are the pros of an angioplasty?
Stents keep the arteries open
Improve blood flow to heart and prevent stroke or heart attack
What are the cons to an angioplasty?
Need lifestyle changes as well as the stent
