What is glaucoma?
Build up of fluid in eye that increases pressure - damages optic nerve

What are treatments for glaucoma?
Eye drops - lowers creation of fluids or increase fluids coming out
Oral medication - beta blockers - improve drainage and slow creation of fluid
What conditions cause rings around lights?
Glaucoma and cataracts
What is AMD?
Degeneration of macula - controls central vision
What are causes of AMD?
Smoking
High BP
Overweight
Family history
Which type of AMD has no cure?
Dry AMD
What are the symptoms of glaucoma?
Eye pain
Rings around lights
Headaches
Blurred vision
What are the symptoms of AMD?
Blurred vision
Straight lines seem wavy
Colours seem less bright
Objects seem smaller
What are treatments for AMD?
Injections of meds
Assistance equipment - no cure for dry AMD
Audio books, cane etc…
What is cataracts?
Clouding of lens due to clumping of damaged proteins - caused light to be deflected/ blocked
What are symptoms of cataracts?
Blurred cloudy vision
Colours seem faded
Difficulty seeing in dim light
See halo / light rings
What are causes of cataracts?
Smoking Family history Eye injury Long term use of steroids Excessive alcohol consumption
What are treatments for cataracts?
Stronger glasses
Cataracts surgery - lens taken out and replaced
What is retinopathy?
Caused by high blood sugar levels damaging blood vessels - leak and damage retina
