What is the “marvelous work” referred to in D&C 4:1?
The “marvelous work” that is referenced here is the restoration of the gospel to the earth.
What do you think it means to have “an eye single to the glory of God”?
I believe that “an eye single to the glory of God” means that we need to adjust our vision of our life to be in tuned to that of our Heavenly Father. We need to be engaged in the “bring of souls”unto the kingdom.
Section 4 is often related to qualifications for missionaries. What evidence is there in the revelation that suggests it has a broader application?
The opportunity to help bring other souls unto salvation also brings our souls the same blessings. Everyone should be an example of the gospel and the light we share also brightens our way home too.
How do we “knock”? (D&C 4:7)
To “knock” is to search with determination, the scriptures and other teachings of the prophets. And then make an earnest inquiry for the truth from our Heavenly Father, through prayer.
What special gift was Hyrum Smith given?
See 11:13.
Hyrum had a request of the Lord to know what was expected of him, Joseph received a revelation for his brother about spreading the word of the Lord to the world. The Lord promised him : The great gift which he possessed was that of a tender, sympathetic heart; a merciful spirit.
Refer to D&C 11:30. Are we not already “the sons of God”? In what sense can we yet become the sons of God?
See Moses 6:64–68; Mosiah 5:7.
We are the sons and daughters of God, but if we follow the teachings and the bring others unto Christ then we are closer to inheriting the Celestial kingdom with Christ and the Father.
