SCR and HR Flashcards

1
Q

SCR study

A

Sympathetic system activates the endocrine sweat glands in the hand. To measure, electrodes are placed on the hands/fingers.

Moisture of sweat disbalances the ions, making it a better conducter. Thereby allowing measurement of skin conductance. SCR is activated by sympathetic system, and is usually refered to as galvanic skin response

Q

Subliminal suppression

A

SCR goes up strongly in phobia. Even when you don’t consciously report seeing a snake, the SCR is visible.

Q

Heart Rate

A

Both the para and the sympathetic system control HR

Para; Vagus nerve
- Deceleration, caused by acetylcholine

Sympathetic Cardiac nerves
- Acceleration, norepinephrine

Activation pattern differs depending on emotion

Q

Defense cascade

A

This describes the defensive response according to the distance of a threat.

Threat detection in the presence of a more distal threat is ass w vigilant freazing (para system decreases HR; fear bradycardia)

Priximal threat activates the sympathetic, heart rate increase (fight/flight)

Not all physiological responses go in similar pattern. SCR increases early,

Q

HR variability

A

Variability in HR (time btw beats) is ass with better well-being.

We respond diff to loved ones compared to unknown
