Predictive coding Flashcards
Predictive coding model
Brain is constantly generating predictions about the sensory input it expects to receive. These are compared to actual sensory input
It’s anticipating what speech will sound like once produced, and the brain activates these acoustic predictions to anticipate the auditory feedback that will result from it. Its checking to see if the output is following this program.
Okada, Matchin & Hickok’s tongue twister study
Evidence for the predictive coding in speech production.
Participants imagined or silently articulated the words
fMRI showed the regions activated for articulation were active. primarily in bilateral auditory cortex. So despite there being no auditory input, this area was active.
