Feeling induction Flashcards
Affect induction
There is a general effect of arousal (dominance study)
- Slight pref for faces compared to houses, this increases based on arousal level
Dominance seen in arousal, valence and congruency
1. arousal; When emotional (pos or neg) you look longer compared to neutral
2. Valence; If induced in negative state, you look longer at stimuli compared to positive
3. Congruence; significantly longer at positive when in positive state.
- Emotional stimuli enhance awareness
- stimuli congruent w mood are more likely to enter awareness.
Attention characteristics in social interaction
Attention enhances mental representations and allocates neural resources to relevant processes, items or representations
Bottom-up is based on saliency/distraction
Top-down is self controlled
Gaze avoidaance
Controls focus on center of the face, whereas social phobia look scattered and little in the eye
High socially anxious also ten do fixate on hands for longer
