Implicit learning Flashcards
Implicit learning
Unconscious learning process. Eg study where subjects are faster with structured than with random sequences even if not explicitly aware of this.
Stages of expertise
Metacognitive
- high relative engagement at the start. decreases as expertise grows
Cognitive control
- Bell curve, ability to think about it increases and goes away as it automatizes
Representation
- increases as expertise develops
Choking under pressure
Affected expertise in high stress situation
Expert becomes conscious of ability and tries to use cognitive control. This interferes with the automatized skill which worsens performance
Focus point
Expert: Speed
Novice: Accuracy
Procedural learning
Remains intact in dementia, mirror reading/tracking remains intact, only repeated word triads show worse effect
Procedural memory in AD remains largely intact
