Intentionality
Beliefs, desires, intentions. (Things that only other agents can have) When you think about a specific person, objec or concept your mental representation is intentional
Teleology
Constraints, goals, action (things that inanimate object can have). Explaining phenomena in terms of their purpose, function or goal-directedness
Natural pedagogy
Theory to explain how children acquire knowledge thought social learning.
adapted to allow transmission of generic knowledge between individuals.
3 assumptions:
1. intentional communication; sensitive to ostensive communicative signals like eye gaze
2. Relevance; Building referential expectations, paying attention to actions relevant to them.
3. Generalization: Generalize knowledge to new contexts/individuals.
Hand using study
In 14 mo, tested the use of head or hands to turn on light
- Imitated the novel action (with head), but only if rational. If it didn’t make sense (non-ostensive condition, or hands occupied) they used the hands
Pointing vs grasping
Pointing is considered referential while grasping is not.
The trained condition in pointing/naming looked more towards the target
Mastery of embedded clauses
Individuals can effectively comprehend and produce complex sentences that contain embedded clauses; clause within a clause
