first generation antipsychotic adverse effects
Extrapyramidal symptoms: acute dystonia, oculogyric crisis (eyes stay upward), joint dislocation, impaired respiration, opisthotonus (severe hypertension of neck)
Along with EPS, what other adverse effects do you have to watch out for with antipsychotics
agranulocytosis (so do a CBC!), sexual dysfunction, severe dysrhythmias (so do an EKG prior to therapy!), neuroendocrine effects (increase levels of prolactin causes gynocomastia and galctorea and it doesnt go away)
FG vs SG antipsychotic adverse effects
FG: Extrapyramidal symptoms, hypotension, cardiac problems, agranulocytosis
SG: metabolic issues: weight gain, diabetes, dyslipidemia, orthostatic hypotension, agranulocytosis
