Diuretics Flashcards
Can loop diuretics be administrated to patients with renal failure?
yes
which diuretics cant be administered to patients with renal failure?
thiazide
loop vs thiazide
loop= works for renal failure patients
thiazide=doesn’t work for renal failure
loop=acts earlier in the system which produces more urine
thiazide=acts later in the system which produces less urine
loop=causes ototoxicity
thiazide=doesn’t cause ototoxicity
loop=decreases BP drastically
thiazide=used for BP
where does thiazide act on?
Early distal convoluted tubules
How do loop and thiazides effect electrolytes (Na, Chloride and K, lipids, mag, BS, uric acis)
hyponatremia, hypochloremia, hypokalemia, increases lipids, deceases mag, increase in BS
which BP meds should you avoid with spironolactone and why?
ACE, ARB because they can increase K
How does spironolactone effect the endocrine
its a steroid derivative so it can cause gynecomastia, menstrual irregularities, impotence, hirsutism, deepening of the voice
