What is croup?
A childhood condition caused by a virus of the airways
What is the treatment for croup?
Dexamethasone
What are 3 ways croup be identified?
A barking cough
Raspy sound during inhalation

What can croup develop into?
Acute epiglottis

What is epiglottis?
When the epiglottis becomes swollen and inflamed due to bacteria
Who does epiglottis most commonly affect?
children aged 2-7
What are 3 symptoms and signs of epiglottis?
Fever
Sore throat
Inspiration stridor (high pitched sound on inspiration)
What is the treatment for epiglottis?
Adrenaline
Nebuliser
What children are at greater risk of developing epiglottis?
Those without the Hib vaccine
What is bronchiolitis?
Inflammation of the bronchioles due to infection
What age bracket is most commonly affected by bronchiolitis?
Babies from 0-2 years old
What is the treatment for bronchiolitis in paediatrics?
Nasal drops (sodium chloride 0.9%) and nasal suction (removes blocking mucus) If oxygen low and RR high then hospital
What are the signs and symptoms of bronchioltiis?
Cold symptoms
Although develop with SOB, wheezing
