Resilience & Behaviour Change Flashcards
Cognitive behavioural strategies
Strategies for changing behaviour that focus on enhancing patterns
of thinking or behaving with positive habits and coping skills.
Action
The fourth stage of the transtheoretical model
in which an individual changes their overt behaviour for less than six months.
Maintenance
The fifth stage of the transtheoretical model in which an individual changes their overt behaviour for more than six months and works to prevent relapse and consolidate the gains attained.
Contemplation
The second stage of the transtheoretical model in which an individual is aware that a problem exists and intends to take action in the next six months but has not yet made a commitment to take action.
Preparation
The third stage of the transtheoretical
model in which an individual intends to take action within the next 30 days and has taken some behavioural steps in this direction.
Pre-contemplation
The first stage of the transtheoretical model in which an individual has no intention to take action within the next six months and is generally aware or under-aware of the problem.
Social Support
The network of family, friends, neighbours and community members that are available during di cult times to provide emotional, physical and financial assistance.
Resilience
An individual’s ability to adapt to stress and adversity. High resilience has been linked to greater life satisfaction and happiness.
Transtheoretical model
A model of behaviour
change that assesses an individual’s readiness to change by looking at the different stages an individual
may go through as they move towards healthier behaviour.
Termination
A nal component in the transtheoretical model in which an individual is no longer tempted by their previous behaviour and are certain they will not return to their unhealthy habits. Not all individuals reach this stage.
