outlines the responsibilities and requirements of a job

looks at the qualifications skills person qualities and experience needed

What is internal recruitment?
selecting employees who already work within the business
Internal recruitment advantages
already familiar with business culture and processes-can adapt to role quickly, little need for induction training
good understanding of candidates strengths weaknesses skills and aptitude-less risky as external abilities unknown
opportunities to progress can be motivating for existing employees-improve loyalty and commitment
cheaper and quicker to promote or redeploy staff
Internal recruitment disadvantages
can lead to conflict or resentment-may affect motivation and working relationships
further vacancy is created when employee is promoted/redeployed-external recruitment may be necessary
limited number of suitable applicants ma be available internally
missed opportunity to inject new ideas skills or experience into business

when the business looks to fill the vacancy from outside the business

look at expenses related to the process of selecting candidates-background checks, visa costs fro those required etc
high labour turnover also increases these costs as this expenditure becomes more regular

training taking place while employees are working in their role
On the job training advantages
tailored to that specific job and responsibilities-more practical and relevant to their duties/company needs
cost effective as takes place during work hours-learning new skills and knowledge while working
On the job training disadvantages
may be susceptible to increase errors while learning impacting quality or customer service
can disrupt the workplace-increased time and effort for the new employee
not always effective-more staff turnover and lower brand reputation
What is off the job training?
training takes place outside of the workplace
e.g workshop, seminar, conferences or online courses
Off the job training advantages
new skills and knowledge from outside the workplace-fresh perspectives which may mean departmental improvements-competitive increase
training can be tailored to employees specific duties and can even be reward for high performing workers
can be cheaper(online/webinars)
Off the job training disadvantages
expensive-travel and accommodation required for employees
employees may miss their working hours-lower productivity
may not be directly applicable to their responsibilities at work-meaning it is not meeting firm needs and so may be unnecessary cost
