What is function?

A

the intended purpose of the product, the tasks of which it is is designed to perform for consumers
argued it is the most vital as it shows how well said product meets needs of user
e.g. if you have a flask for hot drinks, and the lid beaks within two weeks, users will see the function has failed. Also if the flask does not keep your coffee warm, again another failure

Q

What is aesthetic?

A

This element looks at the product’s visual or sensory attributes - including shape, colour or texture

Q

What is economic maufacture?

A

the cost of production must be considered when designing a product
this affects the price which it is sold
A product that is well designed should balance cost and value, ensuring that customers perceive the product as valuable enough in accordance with its cost, while still maintaining profitability for the manufacturer
e.g. Sainsbury’s own brand of lemonade is very cheap to produce and sold at a low price

Q

Changes to the design mix-resource depletion

A

Customers are becoming more aware of their impact on the environment and want to reduce waste and conserve natural resources
design mix may change to reflect re-use and re-recycling companies produce products that are more durable or that can be disassembled for repair or recycling
e.g. Superdry announced their jackets would use recycled polyester in their lining instead of new polyester
