What is a reciprocal reflexive verb?
Shared or reciprocal action between two or more people or things
two or more people/things preforming an action to each other
ex: hugging, meeting, calling
What pattern do reciprocal verbs follow in a sentence?
Same pattern as reflexive verbs, but limited to plural forms:
noi, voi, loro
How can you clarify / emphasize a verb’s recipricol meaning? Why is this needed?
Use of reciprocal verbs can be ambiguous.
Ex: “Si guardano” can mean “they look at themselves” or “they look at each other”.
Use phrases like
-fra/tra (di) loro
-fra/tra (di) voi
-l’un l’altro (males only)
-l’un l’altra (1 or more females in group)
How do you use reciprocal verbs in passato prossimo?
Conjugate the reciprocal verb (like with reflexive verbs) with ESSERE
*Past participle (verb with -ato, -uto, -ito) has to agree with the subject
