How do possessive adjectives work with family members?
1) no definite article with singular nouns for members of the family (ex: mia madre)
2) you do use the definite article if the noun is plural or has an adjective or suffix (la tua sorella maggiore)
3) Loro = always use the article, even if singular

Their friends are very nice. (masc)
I loro amici sono molto simpatici.
He adores his parents
