Dilemma existing when the right thing to do is not clear. Resolution requires the negotiation of differing values among those involved in the dilemma

Interpretations and inferences that influence actions in clinical practice
Clinical Judgement
An interactive process that provides needed guidance and direction
Leadership
A professional definition of what a professional (ex. nurse) is licensed to perform
Scope of Practice
Provides rights to patients and protects employees; includes standards regarding accountability in the healthcare setting and establishes patients rights regarding privacy of their health care information and records
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
A characteristic in an individual portraying honesty and willingness to admit mistakes or inconsistencies in one’s behavior, ideas, and beliefs
Integrity
Process whereby a nurse objectively provides patients with the information they need to make decisions and supports the patients in whatever decisions they make
Advocacy
State of being answerable for one’s actions—– a nurse answers to himself or herself, the patient, the profession, the employing institution such as a hospital, and society for the effectiveness of nursing care performed
