Person’s ability to move freely
Mobility
Inability to move about freely; caused by any condition in which movement is impaired or therapeutically restricted
Immobility
Physiological change following a period of inactivity, bed rest, or sedentary lifestyle. It results in functional losses in such areas as mental status, degree of continence, and ability to accomplish activities of daily living
Deconditioned
Exercise to the joint by the patient while doing activities of daily living or during joint assessment
Active range of motion exercises
Exercises by range of movement of joint is moved with assistance
Passive range of motion exercises
Manner or style of walking, including rhythm, cadence, and speed
Gait
Abnormality that may result in permanent condition of a joint; is characterized by flexion and fixation; and is caused by disease, atrophy, and shortening of muscle fibers and surrounding joints tissues
Joint contracture
Foot is permanently fixed in plantar flexion; unable to lift the toes off of the ground and is at risk for stumbling
Foot drop
Patient who is immobile and has multisystem problems related to inactivity
Disuse syndrome
