tips to help visualise a vein more clearly
- gravity
- tap the vein
- warm the hands (vasodilation )
- make a fist
what’s important when taking blood
apply traction below the vein
which veins are the easisiet to cannulate
- the bigger the vein the better
- the straighter the vein the better

go reallly at a low angle!!!
once you see flashback still advance - big tip !
once you are in use your hand to secure the distal end of the canula while you add the saline flush

CI to abg
Local infection in the area
bleeding diatheses - relative?
warfarin - relative
peripheral vascular disease
abnormal allens
AV fistula or graft
abg procedure
perform allens to see if CI
extend the wrist - helps the radial a sit more superficially
45 degree angle
look for flashback and the syringe should automaticallly fill
if initally you see flahsback then it disappears youve went through the other side so just withdraw
complications ABG
HEMATOMA
you can collect venous blood as a vein is very close
