Exhibitions and the Role of Face-to-Face Marketing
Exhibition (a.k.a. Exposition, Trade Show, Trade Fair)
An organized presentation and display of a selection of items. May be permanent or temporary displays. Typically defined as B2B or B2C
Horizontal Exhibitions
Include many types of products or services from one or more industries i.e. home and garden show
Vertical Exhibition
More limited in scope focusing on on a targeted segment of an industry, i.e. tech shows
Linear booth/Stand
Based on 10’x10’ (3.05 meter x 3.05 meter) configuration. Maximum of one booth deep. Face just one aisle. Linear booths that are located against the interior walls of an exhibit hall are also called perimeter booth
Peninsula booth/Stand
Generally includes a minimum of 4 booth spaces, featuring aisles on three sides with the fourth side bordering other booth areas.
Island Booth/Stand
A stand-alone configuration or island booth comprises a minimum of four booth spaces and faces aisles on all four side.
Feature Areas
Generally refer to areas on an exhibition floor designed to help drive traffic, attract attendance and meet the needs of the audience. May be sponsored by an exhibiting company.
Pavilion
Refers to groupings of booth spaces on an exhibit floor that have commonalities such as product type or country of exhibiting companies.
Co-Location
May be as simple as executing the 2 events in the same facility over shared dates. Or sharing resources like space, staff, suppliers, prospects lists, common areas and social events.
Exclusive Service
The service is provided solely by a designated provider
Recommended or Preferred
Implies a stamp of approval from the exhibition organizer or venue
In-house
Service provider has a presence within the facility and is onsite
Non-exclusive or Discretionary
Can be provided by a variety of contractors, as long as they follow the exhibitions rules and regulations and are appropriately qualified
Exhibitor Appointed Contractor (EAC)
Contractor selected by an exhibitor to provide certain non-exclusive services for specific booths.
Virtual Trade Show
An online hosted event generally in a web environment designed as a marketplace to connect particular buyers and sellers.
