Phopshodiesterase Inhibitors Flashcards
What’re the types of phosphodiesterase inhibitors?
Nonspecific, type 3, type 4, and type 5
What is the active ingredient in nonspecific PDE inhibitors?
Theophylline (methylxanthines)
Indications of methylxanthines?
COPD and Asthma
What do nonspecific PDE’s block?
PDE3,4, and 5
What’s the desired effect of methylxanthines?
Bronchodilation, inhibition of pro inflammatory, deceleration of fibrotic changes in the lung
What drugs are apart of PDE5 inhibitor?
Sildenafil
Tadalafil
Avanfil
Vardenafil
And even dipyridamole
Indications of PDE5 inhibitors?
-What indication is specific to tadalafil?
Erectile dysfunction, pulmonary hypertension
- Benign prostatic hyperplasia
What’s the desired effect of PDE5 inhibitors?
Decrease in pulmonary vascular resistance and increased blood flow in the corpus cavernosum
What drugs are apart of PDE4 inhibitors?
Roflumalist
What’re the indications of PDE4 inhibitors?
Severe COPD
What is the desired effect of PDE4 inhibitors?
Relaxation of the bronchial musculature (bronchodilation)
Same as nonspecific PDE inhibitors it seems..
What’re the agents of PDE3 inhibitors?
Milrinone, amrinone, enoxinone
Cilostazol
Dipryidamole
What is the indication for milrinone, amrinone, and enoximone?
Acute treatment of decompensated cardiac failure with cardiogenic shock
What is indicated for the use of cilostazol and dipyridamole?
Intermittent vascular claudication (ischemia)
TIA/Stroke prevention
What is the desired effect of PDE3 inhibitors?
Increased cardiac contractility, vasodilation and antiplatelet action, and inhibition of platelet aggregation
