Cardiovascular Drug Poisoning Flashcards
What’re the clinical features of cardiac drug poisoning?
-Cardiovascular
- Neurological
-Cardio: hypotension, bradycardia, reflex tachycardia, and tachyarrhythmias
-Neuro: Somnolence, unconsciousness, and seizures
What is the condition of somnolence?
State of drowsiness which a patient can easily aroused
Beta blocker poisoning consists of what clinical symptoms?
-Other features?
Typically bradycardia, hypotension, and CNS depression; aswell as the other CV poisoning symptoms
-Other: Delirium, seizures, Bronchospasm
What’re the diagnostic tests to run to depict beta blocker poisoning?
-What results can conclude suspection?
Laboratory studies
-Hypoglycemia and hyperkalemia
Management of beta blocker poisoning:
-Initial management (hypotension and sympt. Bradycardia)
-persistent instability after initial management
-initial:
• Hypotension: IV fluid volume
• sympt. Bradycardia: atropine
-Persistent:
High dose glucagon therapy, calcium for drug poisoning. And High dose euglycemic insulin therapy (high dose insulin AND glucose)
Digoxin poisoning:
-Risk factors?
Electrolyte imbalances, renal failure, volume depletion, and drug interactions
Management of Digoxin poisoning?
Administer digoxin immune fab (Digifab) if indicated, otherwise treat underlying
