What viruses can cause myocarditis?
Coxsackie B1-5, parvovirus, adenovirus, herpes or HIV
What bacteria can cause myocarditis?
GAS, diphtheria, barreliosis, TB, and mycoplasma pneumonia
What parasites can cause myocarditis?
-1. protozoan
-2. Helminthe
- Toxoplasma gondii and chagas
- Trichinella and echinococcus
What are some other causes of myocarditis besides viruses, bacteria, fungi, or parasites?
Connective tissue diseases, Kawasaki disease, alcohol, cocaine, radiation, sulfanomides, black widow poisoning and carbon monoxide poisoning
What fungi can cause myocarditis?
Candida and aspergillus
Diagnostic findings for myocarditis:
-Lab studies
-12 lead
-TTE
-CBC
- Increased creatinine, troponin, BNP, ESR, C-reactive protein
- Tachycardia, AV block, BBB, frequent PAC’s or PVC’s, low QRS voltage
- Cardiac enlargement
- Leukocytosis
Differential diagnoses?
Pericarditis or MI
Treatment of myocarditis
Treat underlying disease
