What is the definition of peripartum cardiomyopathy?
Cardiomyopathy characterized by the development of idiopathic HFrEF in the months after or before delivery of baby
Clinical features of peripartum cardiomyopathy?
-onset?
-symptoms
Onset: Most common in the first month after delivery; can occur during pregnancy, usually in the 3rd trimester
Symptoms: sign and symptoms of heart failure
What diagnostic tests can confirm peripartum cardiomyopathy?
Echocardiograph, CXR, and cardiac biomarkers
What will an echo show in peripartum cardiomyopathy?
Left and right ventricular dilation
Valve regurgitation (mitral and tricuspid)
Pulmonary HTN
What can be found on a CXR for peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM)?
Cardiomegaly, x ray signs of pulmonary edema
What will cardiac biomarkers show for PPCM?
Elevated BNP and troponin I
Differential diagnosis for PPCM?
Severe preeclampsia
Takotsubo cardiomyopathy
Pulmonary embolism
Pneumonia
Amniotic fluid embolism
What is the treatment for PPCM if the patient has anticoagulation?
Therapeutic anticoagulant is recommended
