- microbes enter cervix –> move up uterus & proliferate as endometrium sloughs off providing nutrition for microbes –> ascends to tubes, ovaries, peritoenum –> peritonitis

- evaluate sexual partners and treat them
- Sx (drain pelvic abscesses)
