2 or more seizures without regaining normal level of consciousness
Pediatric Seizure - First actions
Maintain airway
Administer O2
Obtain BGL
Pediatric Seizure - Patient actively seizing with normal BGL and Temp medication
Midazolam 0.2 mg/kg IN/IM to single max of 10 mg
Pediatric Seizure - Midazolam indication
Active seizure
Pediatric Seizure - IV Midazolam dose
Midazolam 0.1 mg/kg IV/IO to single max of 5 mg
Pediatric Seizure - Midazolam EMS contraindiations
Hypersensitivity
Myasthenia gravis
BP < 70 + (2 x age) mmHg
Pediatric Seizure - Midazolam may cause
Respiratory depression
Hypotension
Pediatric Seizure - Intranasal administration
Deliver half the dose in each nostril
Pediatric Seizure - IM/IN Midazolam dose
Midazolam 0.2 mg/kg IN/IM to single max of 10 mg
Pediatric Seizure - Repeat IM/IN Midazolam dose
Unable to obtain vascular access
Midazolam 0.2 mg/kg IN/IM to single max of 10 mg
