Adult ROSC Flashcards
Adult ROSC - Initial actions
Ensure adequate ventilation and oxygenation
Obtain 12-lead
Maintain BGL
If hypotensive administer 20ml/kg bolus
Adult ROSC - Unconscious non-trauma patient
If hypothermic do no actively rewarm
If temp >38C apply ice to axilla and groin
Adult ROSC - Prehospital care should focus on the prevention of fever/hyperthermia by:
Administering midazolam if the patient is shivering
Applying ice packs to the groin and axilla if temp >38
Adult ROSC - Midazolam indication
Shivering due to therapeutic hypothermia when systolic BP > 100 mmHg
Adult ROSC - Midazolam dose
2.5 mg SIVP/IO, Repeat q 15 minutes prn
Adult ROSC - Midazolam EMS contraindications
Hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines
Myasthenia gravis
Systolic BP < 100 mmHg
Adult ROSC - Midazolam precautions
May cause respiratory depression and hypotension
Adult ROSC - Therapeutic hypothermia is not permitted in patients who suffered…
A traumatic cardiac arrest as it can worsen coagulopathy
