part two study questions treasure island Flashcards
Name the ship and the cook John Trelawney found for the trip to Treasure Island.
cook - Long John Silver
the ship - hispaniola
Why didn’t Jim think Long John Silver was a pirate when he first met him?
Jim didn’t think that Long John Silver was a pirate when he first met him because he was clean and pleasant.
What were Captain Smollett’s complaints to the squire?
Captain Smollett complained to the squire that:
- He doesn’t know why he’s being kept in the dark about the Hispaniola’s destination by Squire Trelawney;
- He has found out that their goal is a treasure hunt – from his own crew, who know more than he does;
- He’s worried that neither Doctor Livesey nor Squire Trelawney really knows what he is doing;
- He would have preferred to hire his own crew;
- he mistrusts Mr. Arrow, his first mate, who seems too friendly with the crew to be a good officer.
Was Mr. Arrow a good officer? Why or why not?
Mr. Arrow was not a good officer because he was always drinking on the ship even though he isn’t supposed to, and people would have to fill in his role on the ship as first mate
What did Jim hear while he was in the apple barrel?
While Jim was in the apple barrel, he hears Captain Flint telling the other voyagers about his past trips at sea and his experience being a pirate. He explains how he lost his leg, and how Pew lost his eyes. He also hears Silver and the other crew members planning to take over the ship and split the treasure between all of them.
