P6 - Molecules and Matter Flashcards
1
Q
Density
A
- Amount of particles squished into a given space
2
Q
Finding density of a Solid
A
- Find mass using scales
- Find measurements of the solid and calculate the volume
- Work out the density
3
Q
Finding density of an irregular Solid
A
- Find mass using scales
- Fill up an eureka can with a measuring cylinder near it
- Place solid into the can and record the volume of the water in the measuring cylinder
- Work out the density
4
Q
Solids
A
- Particles are close together with strong forces, particles don’t have much energy
5
Q
Liquids
A
- Particles have weaker forces and can slide on top of each other, they have more energy than solids
6
Q
Gases
A
- Have close to no force and are free to move, the particles have lots of kinetic energy
7
Q
Changes of States
A
- [Solid > Liquid is Melting], [Liquid < Solid, Freezing]
- [Liquid > Gas is Evaporating], [Gas < Liquid is Condensing]
- [Solid > Gas is Sublimating]
8
Q
Internal Energy
A
- Energy stored by the particles that make up a System
9
Q
System
A
- An object made of particles, e.g. Solid, Liquid, Gas
10
Q
How to change states
A
- Requires energy by boiling/heating increasing the Internal Energy
11
Q
Changes of states on a graph
A
- While the line is ascending/descending its in a state
- While is stationary its Freezing, Condensing, Evaporating etc.
12
Q
Specific Latent Heat
A
- Amount of energy required to change the state of an object
13
Q
Specific Latent Heat Formula
A
- Energy = Mass x Specific Latent Heat
14
Q
How pressure increases
A
- Colliding gas particles
- Increasing temperature of gas particles
