B8 - Photosynthesis Flashcards
Photosynthesis
- Endothermic Reaction taken place in Chloroplast to convert Carbon Dioxide in to Glucose
- For Plant growth
Photosynthesis Equation
Carbon Dioxide + Water ==(light)== Glucose + Oxygen
Leaf adaptations to photosynthesis (6 marks)
- Large S.A meaning more light can be taken from the surroundings
- Chlorophyll in Chloroplast absorbs light
- Thin leaves for quick diffusion path
Describe the Photosynthesis Equation
Carbon Dioxide and Water are taken into the leaf, Chlorophyll then absorbs the light and coverts the Carbon Dioxide and Water into Glucose and Oxygen
Rates affecting Photosynthesis
- ## Light Intensity increases with photosynthesis as it gives more light to the plant to a limit
Limiting Factors
- Stops a process at an extent
- Light Intensity
- Carbon Dioxide
- Chlorophyll
- Temperature, enzymes work faster in high temperature unless they denature
Uses of Photosynthesis
- Agriculture, use of greenhouse making temperature inside it hotter, makes enzymes work faster
Uses of Glucose in plants
- Respiration
- Make Cellulose, stronger Cell wall
- Stored as Starch, can convert into Sugar
Why are Carbohydrates better than Sugars to create Starch
- Sugars are insoluble, cant partake in Osmosis
- Sugars are soluble, can diffuse out of cell
Why might Magnesium Ions be important for Plants
- It helps create more Chlorophyll which is used to gather light for photosynthesis
Starch Testing
- Iodine Solution, turns from blue to orange/brown
Why might there be little presence of Starch in a plant
Starch can be converted into Sugars
Guard Cells
Controls gas exchange
Amino Acids
- Make Amino Acids for Protein using Glucose
- Amino Acids made combining sugars with Nitrate Ions + Other Mineral Ions
Lipids
- Glucose turn into Fats/Oils for energy store or strengthen cell wall
